10 Actors You Won't Believe Almost Played Spider-Man

6. Taylor Lautner

Taylor Lautner seems like a nice enough guy, but given his links to the Twilight franchise, there's probably no way that anybody on Earth would have gone along with the idea of him playing Spider-Man... well, except for those Team Jacob fanatics. Before Andrew Garfield was gifted with the role, then, Lautner's name was being banded about the web as being in talks for the prestigious role. A lot of websites offered up their opinion as to whether or not he'd make a good Peter Parker; the general consensus seemed to be "too handsome, too dull." And that about sums it up, really. Lautner feels inherently wrong on a basic level - he's far too conventionally charismatic and doesn't feel natural to the likes of Peter Parker in the same way, either as a nerd or as a superhero. He's also not the most versatile actor in town; more at home in the sorts of movies that require him to stand around looking a bit broody whilst not wearing a shirt (which he does well, of course). Sometimes you just know that something isn't meant to be; the producers for The Amazing Spider-Man obviously felt similarly.
