5. Woody Harrelson as Mickey Knox in 'Natural Born Killers'

Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers isn't an easy watch and I've spoken to some people who hated it and some others who found it a genuinely offensive watch but personally I kind of feel it's a necessary one. The film is loud and violent and twisted in an uncomfortable way; almost humorous at points but just a little too off kilter for you to laugh at. So your looking for one of two leads to take that on and who do you pick? The dumb but incredibly nice bartender from the sitcom 'Cheers'? No, really. The weirdest thing of all is how well is translates.

Harrelson still plays dumb in this film but he mixes that with a blunt violence that channels a sense of 'too dumb to know how awful he's being'. This also wouldn't be the last role of this type Harrelson would proceed to take on with the recent 'rampart' being a good example. I was going to include Harrelson and Juliette Lewis as a combo here but I have no trouble whatsoever imagining that she is full-bore mental.
