10 Actors You Didn't Know Have Retired

1. Emma Watson

With the announcement having been reported by several news outlets after originating from the Daily Mail, the purported retirement of Emma Watson at the age of 30 was, truth be told, the inspiration for this entire article.

While the Daily Mail is obviously a ropey source for most things, the story of Watson's immediate retirement came to the outlet via the star's agent. To be precise, the acting career of Emma Watson was declared "dormant" and she is no longer seeking any future projects.

According to the outlet, the reason for this retirement is that Watson wants to spend more time with her partner of 18 months, Leo Robinton.

However, since the news started circulating, Watson's manager denied the claims to Entertainment Weekly, saying that "Emma's social media accounts are dormant but her career isn't."

A retirement at 30 does seem remarkably young, but the caveat here is that the actress has already wracked up a career spanning nearly 21 years. Likewise, it was only last year that Watson teased moving away from acting to focus on "fewer red carpets and more conference meetings" in relation to pursuing the activism work that she's been so involved in for several years now.

Of course, a return to the silver screen is very much a possibility down the line for Emma Watson as per her manager's comments, but for now at least, an extended break or semi-retirement could be on the cards.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
