10 Actors You Forgot Had Minor Roles In War Movies
3. John Krasinski - Jarhead
2005 was a big deal for John Krasinski since it was the year he joined the American remake of The Office as wisecracking sales rep, Jim Halpert. Even though Krasinski has had massive success with the tv series, Jack Ryan, and his directorial debut, The Quiet Place, it's a safe bet he's mostly recognised for his work on The Office.
But the same year that Emmy-award winning sitcom aired, Krasinski also appeared in Sam Mendes' Jarhead. The biographical drama revolves around a group of testosterone-driven Marines who head into the Gulf War, desperate to get some action. But after spending half a year meandering around boot camp, the soldiers struggle to deal with boredom and isolation, and so, find themselves at each others throats, figuratively and literally.
Krasinski's character, Corporal Harrigan, only appears for less than a minute but he has a great scene. When Jake Gyllenhaal's character, Swofford, meets him, Harrigan explains he's been tasked with typing out the love letters that the Major writes for his partner. Because Harrigan is trained in classic literature, he sounds like the perfect guy for this job. But since these "love letters" are astoundingly pornographic, Harrigan makes it clear his talents are being wasted.
