Sarah Jessica Parker is likely to be forever synonymous with the role of Carrie Bradshaw in the romantic comedy drama series Sex and the City.

A series so big it spawned not one but two spin-off movies, the fact of the matter is that SJP was making movies long before the HBO series came along.

Best known for roles in romantic comedies like LA Story, Honeymoon in Vegas and The First Wives Club, Parker also dabbled in a bid of family fun with Hocus Pocus as well as a fine turn in Tim Burton’s criminally underrated Ed Wood.

But there was a time when Matthew Broderick’s other half dabbled in sci-fi. The 1980s, in fact, when a fresh-faced Parker appeared in the Disney cult classic The Flight of the Navigator.

Beloved among film fans who grew up in that era, it centres on the adventures of David, a young boy who ends up travelling eight years into the future aboard a whip-smart alien spaceship.

Parker pops up as NASA intern Carolyn McAdams, a character who quickly befriends David and aids his escape after he is captured by shady government types after jumping into the future.

Despite the film’s status in some circles, it’s an appearance many probably forgot ever happened.
