10 Actors You Probably Forgot Were In Sci-Fi Movies

6. Debbie Harry - Videodrome (1983)

Debbie Harry had only starred in one other major Hollywood film prior to landing a lead role alongside James Woods in David Cronenberg’s body horror classic Videodrome.

Prior to that the Blondie frontwoman had been largely restricted to small parts and appearances on arthouse films, save for a starring role in Union City which she bagged prior to hitting the big time with Blondie.

That film ultimately failed to gain much traction, however, after its producers decided to drastically re-edit it in order to ensure it received a PG certificate.

There were no such problems with Videodrome, a bleak and bloody sci-fi tale about a sleazy TV programmer (Woods) who stumbles upon a show broadcasting extreme violence. As he begins to investigate, his life unravels into a series of increasingly shocking hallucinations.

Harry plays Nicki, a sadomasochistic radio host who ends up taking an interest in the mysterious broadcasts but pays a heavy price. A gory, twisted tale, Videodrome is a very special film, paving the way for the various Cronenberg classics that followed. It’s also a far fry from anything Harry has done before or since.
