3. Big Daddy
Adam Sandler plays a man child this time around who runs into a string of bad luck. Not only does his girlfriend leave him but the 7 year old son of his best friend that neither even knew existed is dropped off at his doorstep. Jon Stewart plays the best friend unfortunately out of town on business so Sandler gets stuck with the shy yet adorable child. Big Daddy is one of Sandlers more down to Earth and heartwarming comedies. What starts out as Sandlers world collapsing around him evolves into legitimate care for the child. Its a movie where both a man and a child grow up under some unfair circumstances but a wide array of supporting characters including a bum Steve Buscemi and dimwitted pizza delivery man played by Rob Schneider lighten the tone. Sandler bonds with his illegitimate son through rather crude pranks like rigging skateboarders to fall and threatening an unprepared grumpy man on Halloween for having no holiday spirit. From a character standpoint this is Sandlers best comedy. Its also pretty damn heartwarming with a feel good ending. Rarely do you find yourself rooting for anyone in a Sandler comedy, but that courtroom scene transcends the film moderately above generic slapstick comedy.
