10 Alien Invasion Movies Where Humanity Loses
9. Skyline (2010)
The so-called Brothers Strause are not known for their discerning directing style, having previously helmed the dark (visually and tonally) and disastrous sequel Alien vs Predator: Requiem in 2007, before being let loose on another sizeable production in 2010’s Skyline. Fitting, then, that Skyline sees humanity lose their fight in the home of Hollywood.
This sci-fi disaster-horror sees Los Angeles come under an unusual kind of attack from alien ships hovering overhead. Illuminating the ground below with blue light, the ships’ beams hypnotise humanity into a zombie state, in which they can be plucked from the face of the planet and abducted to the crafts above for nefarious experiments and suchlike.
Although protagonist Jarrod (Eric Balfour) manages to rally from having his brain sucked out in the final sequence, and fight back against the invaders from within his new alien meat suit, it’s a bit of a lost cause. Invulnerable (even to nuclear weapons), the invading aliens in Skyline get everything they want, abducting humans and harvesting their brains and so on, and one rowdy upstart ain’t changing that.
