10 Alien Mistakes Neill Blomkamp Should Totally Erase

10. The Deaths Of Hicks & Newt

Well, it was bound to turn up on the list, wasn't it? Especially since the super ill-judged decision to kill off both Hicks and Newt - who went through hell to survive the events of Aliens, mind - probably stands as the most derided and innately dumb decision to have ever been made within the franchise. Alien 3 is renowned for having a lot of questionable narrative issues, of course, but this one is in a league of its own. How did 20th Century Fox approve something as downright insane as this? Not only did Aliens cement both Hicks and Newt as iconic characters in the Alien canon, but it seemed bizarre to have them survive the length of the movie, only to cynically kill them both off at the start of Alien 3 - without so much as uttering a word. Blomkamp has stated his intentions to poise Alien 5 as a sequel to Aliens. What that means, exactly, remains unclear, given that he also doesn't plan to wipe out Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection. But it almost sounds as though there could be a way to bring these characters back - albeit older versions. Ripley, of course, will be older, too, which means that Alien 5 could grant the director the opportunity to correct one of the biggest filmic wrongs of all-time.
