10 Alien Mistakes Neill Blomkamp Should Totally Erase
9. The Death Of Ripley
Another kink that needs to worked out if Alien 5 is to be any good: Ripley sacrificing herself to put a stop to the Xenomorph chain at the end of Alien 3 by jumping into a pit of molten hot lava is something of a no-go. Alien 3 - at the time it was made, anyway - was poised as an end to the franchise, of course... but 20th Century Fox later decided that, oh, they didn't want to call it quits after all, and wrote in a half-arsed plot device that allowed Ripley to miraculously return to life from beyond the grave come Alien: Resurrection (more on that awfulness later). If Blomkamp's movie is to rewrite the chronology, though, then the death of Ripley should be one of the first things to be reviewed. Fans, after all, don't want a "fake" Ripley - they want the real thing: the hardened survivor who went through hell to stay alive across the events depicted in Alien and Aliens. Though her suicide in Alien 3 was certainly noble, it was also a bit premature. Did Fox really need to kill off such an iconic character as soon as they did?
