10 All-Star Cast Whodunnits To Watch Before Knives Out
6. Death On The Nile (1978)
Taking over the role of Hercule Poirot after Albert Finney, (whose superb act had got him an Oscar nomination in the process) couldn't reprise the role, Peter Ustinov might just have made the role his own. He went on to play the character five more times with diminishing returns. But the first movie was the best among his Poirot movies.
Many of the movie's stacked cast, including the likes of cinema legends Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, David Niven are now considered mystery movie veterans, having worked in many classics in the genre.
As with all Agatha Christie adaptations, the movie takes a while to get going introducing all the characters. Egypt, and more specifically, the Nile paddle steamer, S.S. Karnak, becomes another character in the movie. Overall, it was one of the best adaptations of her novels.
