7. Army of Darkness - Ash Oversleeps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8iAo3PqsX0 Here's an alternate ending that tends to divide the fanbase of the Evil Dead films, because in one sense it isn't as silly and fun as the theatrical ending - in which Ash returns to his own time, finds that a demon has come through with him, and kills it - but it's also more in tune with the deadly ironic endings of the first two films, which aren't exactly happy but still manage to amuse us. In the alternate version, Ash is given a magic potion that allows him to sleep for a century for every drop of it that he drinks, but he ends up drinking too much and oversleeps, waking up in a futuristic apocalyptic wasteland, where the Deadites seem to be ruling again. Ash lets out an anguished cry, and the film promptly comes to a close. It's great because it gives Ash another reason to come back for another film, and also denies him a happy ending; after all, these films aren't exactly the peak of character development and honest emotion, so it's best to keep things light and silly. But at the same time, the theatrical ending manages to be fun and playful while getting Ash back to his time, so we can understand why they went with it.
