The Ending We Got

In one of the most memorable endings to any superhero movie ever, the credits for Deadpool 2 saw 'Pool using Cable's time travelling technology to go back in time and right some wrongs: he brings his girlfriend Vanessa back from the dead, he saves X-Force member Peter from the same fate and he kills off both the X-Men Origins: Wolverine version of Deadpool and also Ryan Reynolds himself as he reads the Green Lantern script.

It's genius and very funny and it's the perfect sign-off after Deadpool has saved the day again.

The Ending We Almost Saw

In the original draft, though, Wade didn't save Vanessa. The writers told CBR that their initial version of the script was more grim and 'Pool's ladyfriend stayed dead:

We originally did not save her. It was interesting — we thought we might have to save her with the time machine, because the audience would be mad at us, but they were accepting of her being dead. […]Now we can bring her back as Copycat, and Morena was very thrilled when she got the call. ‘We got the time machine working, and you’re still alive!’ ‘I knew it!’ It was really funny.

At one point, there was also a scene featuring Deadpool going back in time to kill baby Hitler, which writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick thought would be too much:

"It's true. I think it was cut just because, it was at the very, very end, and it left the audience with this, 'Oh?' It's like, 'Sure, it's baby Hitler, but it is a baby. It's kind of weird to watch that!... We are Deadpool but there is a line we can't cross."

That line is apparently baby killing. Good to know.
