9. Norah Escapes - Underwater
Lovecraftian sci-fi horror film Underwater concludes with protagonist Norah Price (Kristen Stewart) laying down her life so that her teammates Smith (John Gallagher Jr.) and Haversham (Jessica Henwick) can evacuate the underwater drilling facility using the two working escape pods.
But a very, very pissed off Cthulu isn't very happy about this, and so Price takes drastic action to prevent the legendary sea monster from foiling their escape: she overloads the station's nuclear core, causing a huge explosion which kills her along with Cthulu and its spawn.
Yet the film's home video release features an alternate, altogether happier ending in which Norah manages to press a few buttons and get the third damaged escape pod working, allowing her to also escape the area before the blast detonates.
Ultimately this feels like an ending shot to appease anxious studio executives rather than an actual fitting conclusion to the story, so the ending we actually got was effortlessly superior.
