Plot: On July 17th 2002, something kills every living male on the planet, plunging the world into chaos. The only exceptions are young escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand. They set out across America to reunite with his girlfriend (Yorick's, not the monkeys) and are drawn into a story that is both huge in scope yet very personal. There are creepy scientists, government killers, an Israeli strike team and even a ninja, but it all comes down to one boy and his monkey in Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra's sci-fi odyssey. The Pitch: Children Of Men hit The Road. Why It Would Make A Killer Movie: A post-apocalyptic story involving lots of spectacle and action? Check. Larger than life characters? Check. Lots of extreme and unforgettable imagery? Check. If that's not enough to convince you this would make a great film there is also a truly heart-breaking ending to this globe-spanning adventure that takes a lifetime, making it one of the best graphic novels ever written. Y: The Last Man has come close to being made numerous times since it was first published in 2002 with Disturbia pair DJ Caruso and Shia LaBeouf, French director Louis Leterier, David Goyer and most recently Portal director Dan Trachtenberg all coming and going. However in January 2014 Brian K. Vaughn said that the film rights will revert back to him and co-creator Pia Guerra, so if shooting doesn't begin soon which means we may have to wait a little longer before getting a chance to see this Eisner award-winning story on the big screen.
