5. Nurse Pig Faces (The Twilight Zone)
As much as I really wish I was around to watch The Twilight Zone during its initial run, I was born many many decades after this episode, "The Eye of The Beholder" and the TV series aired in the 60's. Despite the fact that I have never ever seen an episode to this classic TV series (I have seen the movie version however) even I am aware of the Nurse Pig Faces and if someone were to dress up as one at a fancy dress party I bet many people who have never seen the show would get the reference. Even if they didn't get the reference, the characters themselves are pretty horrific and are suitably scary for Halloween. If you are unaware of the story of this episode, the pig faced people live in a world where this is the norm, and the pig face nurses are trying to treat a woman who thinks she is disfigured and ugly, whereas to us she is a perfectly attractive normal looking human being (much like Marilyn Munster). On the plus side these costumes are very easy to recreate and would be particularly effective if you were going to a party in a group of people and so far were thinking that the easiest thing would be to all dress up as zombies- this would be so much scarier, so much cooler and much more original. You could probably pick up a pig nose from most fancy dress shops and if you can not find one, they would be easy enough to make out of papier-mache. The nurse costume again should be no trouble at all to either make or alternatively buy from any good fancy dress store or... ahem... sex shop.
