2. Perfect Blue (1997)

Perfect BlueWhat To Expect: David Lynch does Hitchcock. Plot: Pop singer Mimi decides to quit her band CHAM, much to the chagrin of her fans, and become an actress. After some initial success the pressures start to mount and Mimi's grasp on reality starts to slip as she is haunted by her reflections and starts to develop an alter ego; an alter ego none too pleased to play second fiddle. At the same time studio staff who work with Mimi start to be murdered in horrible and gruesome ways by an Mimi obsessed stalker. Director Satoshi Kon's psychological horror channels the best of Alfred Hitchcock through an R-rating as viewers follow Mimi's descent into madness. It's all done with a style and panache all its own and is a frightening and surreal thriller well worth a watch.
