Plot: A lonely young girl named Asuna spends her days listening to the strange music coming from an odd crystal radio her deceased father left her and is drawn into a hidden world called Agartha. She embarks on a grand adventure to a world populated by the keepers of the dead, terrifying creatures and arch angels in a search for the Gate of Life and Death in this ambitious and touching anime film. As we follow the spirited Asuna on her journey to say farewell we are reminded of the films keys message; hope. Created and directed by Makoto Shinkai, this film follows in the traditions of many other coming of age stories by focusing on loss but has been heralded as an example of how magical anime can really be when done well.
