10 Alternative Must See Films Of 2014

1. Into The Woods

As we move into December we enter family friendly territory with the release of Into The Woods, a fantasy film from Rob Marshall and based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Stephen Sondheim. It tells the story of a baker and his wife who learn they've been cursed to be childless by a witch and embark on a quest to retrieve magical objects in a bid to break the spell. Set in a world of Grimm fairy tales the couple meet everyone from the Big Bad Wolf and Rapunzel to Cinderella and Jack minus the beanstalk and it features an A-list cast including Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick. What starts as an irreverent fantasy eventually becomes more meaningful as themes of responsibility and what we leave our children come to the fore. Now if you like quests and the fantasy genre but aren't keen on musicals then there really is only one other option. The world will finally get to see the final part of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy: There and Back Again. Find out what happens to Bilbo, Gandalf et all in December as Thorin and the other Dwarfs, Sleepy, Bashful, Doc and Grumpy, look to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. That's the list done. Please let us know which of these films you are looking forward too in the comments section below or which other alternative films you think will be the surprise packages over the next 12 months.
