8. The Place Beyond The Pines
Next up for your consideration is The Place Beyond The Pines released in April. This film is directed by Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance and reunites him with current Hollywood golden boy Ryan Gosling. Gosling plays a motorcycle stunt rider turned bank robber who clashes with Bradley Coopers cop who has political aspirations. This low-budget film has an A-list cast with Eva Mendes, Rose Bryne, Ray Liotta and Dane DeHaan supporting Gosling and Cooper. It promises some realistic nail-biting action, but with a lot of focus on the families of Gosling's criminal and Cooper's cop, as their respective futures are affected by the game of cat and mouse that ensues. Also released in April is Fast And Furious 6 which will likely offer more high octane action and tank tops than The Place Beyond The pines as the gang all return to take down a rival mob of car thieves in London. Extra suspension of disbelief might be needed for this sixth instalment of this very successful franchise though... high speed pursuits through the streets of London? Have you seen the traffic?
