10 Alternative Opening Movie Scenes You Never Saw

1. Planet Of The Symbiotes - Venom

You really couldn't be blamed for forgetting the opening sequence to Venom - if not most of the movie, honestly - which amounts to nothing more than an insanely generic setup as the alien symbiote crash-lands in Malaysia and escapes confinement.

But the film originally had a far more interesting opening, with a prologue that actually showed audiences Klyntar, the symbiotes' home world, otherwise known in the comics as The Planet of the Symbiotes. Director Ruben Fleischer said:

"The beginning of the movie was a hard one. Like, how much do we want to tell the backstory? There was a version [of the opening] where there was a planet crawling with tons of symbiotes that were collected and taken back to Earth by the Life Foundation. They had encountered them. But it kind of felt like, my instinct was it would be better to keep it more mysterious and just know that they've retrieved something from space.
We don't know exactly by what means or how. Jenny [Slate]'s character later says they encountered it on a comet that was passing, and they retrieved these samples and brought it back to Earth. But yeah, I thought it was better just leave it a little bit mysterious, the backstory of the aliens."

Venom isn't really the sort of movie that benefits from subtlety, so kicking things off with a glimpse at the Planet of the Symbiotes would've been a sight more exciting than the bland alien arrival scene we ended up with.
