10 Amazing 2014 Performances That Changed Your Mind About Actors You Hate
3. Tom Cruise - Edge Of Tomorrow
Tom Cruise is still a megastar, after more than thirty years of appearing in top Hollywood productions. But that star has waned ever since the whole jumping on Oprah's couch incident in 2005 and he has been dogged by rumours about his personal life and relgion. As if you needed proof that Tom Cruise was a box-office heavyweight, the numbers back it up: twenty one of his films have grossed more than $200m at the box-office. Regrettably for Cruise, the figures in recent years have not quite measured up to his (admittedly lofty) standards, indicating a decrease in the star's popularity. Four of Cruise's recent films have failed to crack $100m at the North American box-office: Valkyrie, Knight And Day, Jack Reacher and Oblivion all failed to produce in Cruise's homeland. With this in mind, 2014's $175m-budget Edge Of Tomorrow was labeled one biggest risks in Hollywood and the film was forecast to make next-to-nothing in receipts. Indeed, Edge Of Tomorrow didn't set the American box-office on fire ($100.2m in total) but it did great business overseas and, perhaps more importantly, the film itself received almost universal praise with many critics singling out Cruise's performance. It was one of the star's best for many years.
