10 Amazing 2019 Films That Didn't Get A Single Oscar Nomination
1. Booksmart
Probably the best coming-of-age high school comedy in recent memory, there was a chance of an original screenplay nod following its inclusion at the BAFTAs and the WGA. Sadly, it was not to be.
Still, if you have not seen Booksmart, you're doing yourself a disservice. Possibly the most heartfelt look at young female friendship and modern high school dynamics in a very long time, Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein's performances create two of the most endearing characters of the year.
There's a character for everyone in this film, taking stereotypes and flipping them on their heads to create individual side characters so unique and hilarious that they stay with you long after the film has finished.
Despite a disappointing box office run at the time, Booksmart is already being remembered as one of the best comedies of the decade. The legacy of this film will far outrun its modern day indicators of success such as money or awards.
