10 Amazing Animated Film Soundtracks From The Last 10 Years
4. Moana
An utterly astounding soundtrack with the legendary Lin-Manuel Miranda at the helm, Moana provided a new take on the Disney princess while maintaining a lot of what people love about the classics.
The music for Moana is as rich with Polynesian sound as it is visuals and culture, with Opetaia Foa'i providing Oceanic lyrics and sound from different Pacific Islander groups and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mark Mancina rounding out its epic scale and flare. Songs like "Where You Are" and "We Know The Way" give a sense of community and culture, building the world beautifully through song, while the smash hit "How Far I'll Go" (another of Disney's "I Want" songs) lets Auliʻi Cravalho shine as the strong and adventurous Moana.
Giving it a more modern edge while still fitting the world are Dwayne Johnson's fantastic and memorable "You're Welcome" as demigod Maui and the self-congratulating "Shiny" by Jemaine Clement as giant crab Tamatoa, not quite a mainline villain song but certainly enjoyably sinister nonetheless.
The way Moana proudly presents cultures never before seen in Disney apart from Lilo and Stitch, and the music transporting you to its lush and colourful world, is always and forever worth revisiting.
