10 Amazing Character Moments In The Matrix Trilogy

3. Trinity - The Reloaded Opening Shootout

After the first Matrix - which closed with a final shot of Neo looking up towards the sky and literally flying away - there was a certainty that Neo would be the de facto badass of the Nebuchadnezzar crew. But, the sequel's opener threw everything off kilter as it showed legendary hero Trinity do what she does best and tearing through a power station like a leather-clad juggernaut.

The first film opened with a scene that displayed how awesome Trinity was, so you're damn right the Wachowski's would start their second film with a similar sequence. From crashing a motorcycle into a security booth, to making good use of a helmet, the sequence tells fans that the series is back and Trinity especially is better than ever!

While the film does fake-out with a shot that suggests Trinity might have been killed in the first two minutes, only to immediately cut to Neo waking up, it does of course foreshadow the events to come and toy with the idea of fate and causation. Later in the film, we learn the real cause of this scene - which is Trinity's defiance to stay out of the Matrix (at the wishes of Neo).

Her bravery to assist the others in getting to the source leads to her own death (and subsequent resurrection), but for fans of The Matrix who look far too much into the detail, this entire sequence warns that no matter what, Trinity was always going to die.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
