While Green Arrow is currently a big name on the TV side of things, there was a time at DC where he represented a potential flagship hero for the movie brand. The film in question that would have put him on the map was the incredibly intriguing Escape From Super Max.

The story followed a wrongfully imprisoned Oliver Queen who was forced to work with the other supervillains incarcerated with him to escape from the futuristic prison he was being held in. The whole ordeal sounded cool, it had a big name behind it in David S. Goyer, and it looked as if the movie was going to happen.

But as the years passed, it became clear that DC and Warner Bros had passed on the film. Goyer would later clarify that he felt it was because the story was just ahead of its time and despite its quality, because Green Arrow wasn't Batman or Superman, the executives weren't interested.

There’s still a chance he could appear in the second wave of DCEU films should they make it that far, but that doesn’t change just how close he came last time. The fact that the creators are still lamenting its loss shows just what a missed opportunity this was for the character.
