The first feature film from Jono Maclead, My Old School recounts the unbelievable true story of what happened in a Glasgow high school in 1993 when a student called Brandon Lee walked into class for the first time.

Though his peculiar appearance and American accent set him apart from everyone else in his class, the 16-year-old soon formed a tight group of friends and became one of the school’s most popular students. However, to the shock of everyone, Brandon wasn’t who he said he was.

Part documentary, part animation, the film is comprised of interviews with Brandon’s former classmates as they recall their memories of their old friend. However, Brandon never appears on camera himself. Rather, he’s portrayed by actor Alan Cumming, who lip-syncs to the audio of Brandon’s own words. From the offset, the absentee subject is portrayed as an enigmatic and mysterious figure. To say any more about the unfolding details, though, would spoil this documentary's many shocking twists.

Also featuring the voice talents of Lulu alongside animated sequences bursting with personality and humour, My Old School simply one of those films that needs to be seen to be believed.
