10 Amazing Films From 2022 Nobody Is Talking About
6. Moonage Daydream
From Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Brett Morgen (Cobain: Montage Of Heck) comes Moonage Daydream, a kaleidoscopic collage of sights and sounds that paint a psychedelic portrait of the life and career of David Bowie using previously unreleased footage from the artist’s personal archives. More impressively, the feature was the first to be made with support from the singer’s estate.
Premiering at this year’s Cannes Film Festival before subsequently being released on IMAX in September, this documentary is a sensory-shattering, audio-visual odyssey which fully envelopes viewers into Bowie’s art.
Like Morgen’s Cobain documentary, Moonage Daydream is less of a conventional biopic and more of a cinematic expression of the musician’s work. Comprised of electrifying live performances and interviews alongside a collection of his own paintings and experimental videos, viewers are treated to a unique insight into the singer's mind.
Focusing primarily on the iconic Ziggy Stardust era, this film is a celebration of not only his music, but of the influence he had as a cultural zeitgeist who brought androgyny to the forefront of fashion.
Euphoric and bombastic, Moonage Daydream is a film that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible with the sound turned up high.
