10 Amazing Horror Anthology Films You Have To See

1. Trick 'R Treat

561993

The storylines in Trick 'r Treat are so brilliantly woven together it almost doesn't feel like a horror anthology at all. The movie tells four separate tales all taking place in the same town on Halloween night, but it's not like one segment ends and then another begins. Trick 'r Treat goes in and out of each story, characters from one cross over into another, and it's all so seamless as to never feel like it's stopping and restarting.

It's also one of the few anthologies which is truly consistent and where none of the segments feels like the weak link. In similar movies, there's always that one story that's inferior and that you just have to sit through to get to the good stuff again, but not here. Stories of the murderous school principle, five kids investigating an urban legend, a 22-year-old virgin girl and an old man who hates Halloween are all incredibly entertaining and equally well constructed.

There are also a number of surprising twists through the last act that flip the whole story on its head, with your opinion of characters radically changing and with Michael Dougherty subverting all expectations. It's a festive and surprisingly even anthology that never wears out its welcome and rewards repeat viewings. If you don't watch this at some point in October, you're doing Halloween wrong.
