10 Amazing Horror Anthology Films You Have To See

2. Creepshow

The tagline for Creepshow claims it's the most fun you'll ever have being scared, and that isn't far off. This is one of the early horror anthologies to embrace dark humor, both genuinely scary while goofy enough to make for perfect party viewing.

Like many of these anthologies, the movie is clearly inspired by comics, and the whole thing gives off that feeling of staying up late to read some crazy horror comic. In fact, in the frame story, a young boy is reading a comic called Creepshow. From there, the film tells five tales: an abusive father returns from the grave on father's day, a dimwitted yokel discovers a meteorite, a psychopath (played by Leslie Nielsen) buries a man alive in the sand, a crate contains a mysterious creature, and a dude is incredibly afraid of germs.

It's uneven as anthologies typically are, and at 2 hours, it arguably overstays its welcome after a while. Despite that, there are dozens of dark, screwed up, and hilarious moments throughout, as well as plenty that call for a barf bag to be handy, so be warned. Creepshow also focuses on all different types of horror, never stuck on one thing the whole time. Plus, the film is written by Stephen King, who also stars as the backwards yokel. That alone makes it more than worth the price of admission.
