4. Female Stunt Doubles Get It Tough - The Matrix Reloaded
Perceived sexism in the film industry is always going to be a hot-button issue, but it's an unfortunate though that, due to the generally skimpier duds we place female characters in, it makes the jobs of female stunt-workers that much harder. In The Matrix Reloaded's epic car chase, Trinity is riding her motorcycle in oncoming traffic, before a giant truck catches up and tries to crush her against a wall, forcing her to slam on the brakes and narrowly avoid getting mushed. The stunt had a few mishaps, such as the semi's trailer erratically swinging outward, made all the more dangerous by the fact that the stuntwoman, Debbie Evans, was forced to wear a skin-tight PVC outfit that allowed little room for padding and other safety precautions. All she had was shin guards, hip plates, and a wig to cushion her head (due to her smartly refusing to cut her hair for the role).
