10 Amazing Movies Made On Shockingly Small Budgets

5. Manborg - $1,000

A love letter to cheap horror and sci-fi, Manborg wreaks of its low budget nature, but it’s easy to embrace and have fun with because of that. It takes place in a dystopian future where a cyborg is brought back to life and fights back against a bunch of demons. How can you not love that plot?

The movie feels cobbled together by a bunch of lovers of film, full of cheap costumes and CGI effects. But when put in perspective that the film had a budget of just $1,000, the whole thing actually looks shockingly good.

It was directed by 26-year-old Steve Kostanski, who spent three years working on it and shot for a year in his parents’ garage. Just about the entire thing takes place on a green screen, so Kostanski then spent two years laboring over the post production on his personal computer.

It’s not all CGI though, and Kotanski actually built a number of small sets and miniatures. It’s a pretty fun time, and for something made by a few film geeks in a garage, it has a lot of heart to it and really feels like a labor of love. Kotanski hasn't publicly said how financially successful the film was, but after getting great reviews and being available on Amazon and in stores, there's no way it didn't surpass its budget by quite a lot.
