10 Amazing Movies Made On Shockingly Small Budgets
4. Last House On Dead End Street - $800
Last House on Dead End Street was a crappy exploitation film from the 70s that clearly ripped off its title from The Last House on the Left, but it was somehow produced for just $800.
The movie was pretty graphic at the time, following an ex-convict who films his murders in an abandoned house. The whole production crew released the film under pseudonyms, so for decades nobody knew who was behind it. That lead to a persistent rumor that it actually depicted real murders and that's why there weren't any real names on it. In reality, it was probably just because the movie was so crappy that nobody wanted it on their resume.
Decades later, it was confirmed that the film was directed by Roger Watkins, which was a pretty boring answer to the decades long mystery. Although the budget was technically $3,000, only $800 of that was actually spent on the movie. Allegedly Watkins was a drug addict and spent the remaining $2,200 on amphetamines. The director and cast were all either current or recently graduated students, so basically this is a film made for just a few hundred dollars by a bunch of kids and a director who was high all the time, but despite that it actually made an impact on pop culture.
