10 Amazing Movies Over Three Hours Long

7. Malcolm X

Lord Of The Rings Return Of The King Aragorn
Largo International

Runtime: 3 hours 22 minutes

In what might be the oddest opening weekend battle of all time, 1992's Malcolm X released opposite Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and Bram Stoker's Dracula, as the trio vied for that coveted number one spot.

Ultimately, the Denzel Washington-starrer finished in third, because a three-hour biopic was never going to touch its more mainstream-friendly competition. Instead, Malcolm X had to settle for being the best movie of that weekend, and one of the best of the entire year.

It's got a phenomenal performance by Washington, some truly affecting storytelling and one hell of a closing sequence; this is a satisfying portrait of an inspiring, intriguing man that refuses to sugar-coat anything, making for an exhilarating viewing experience that will absolutely fly by.
