10 Amazing Movies Over Three Hours Long

4. Lawrence Of Arabia

Lord Of The Rings Return Of The King Aragorn
Columbia Pictures

Runtime: 3 hours 36 minutes

One of only a few movies to score a perfect 100 on Metacritic, Lawrence Of Arabia is rarely absent from lists containing the best films of its decade, as well as best films of all time.

And that's entirely justified, because - although it does feel a little outdated due to some hokey dialogue and an incredibly muted image - it exudes class and sophistication, as though it's a perfect relic from a forgotten era of highly intelligent, yet still furiously entertaining blockbusters.

The movie follows T. E. Lawrence's epic journey throughout the first World War, depicting his internal struggle between his loyalty to the British army and his newfound allies in the Arabian desert.

The movie's scope and scale is truly mesmerising for something made in the '60s: there are noisy, large-scale horseback battles, and steady, sweeping shots over the sandy vistas of the Arabian desert. Lawrence Of Arabia is essential viewing, and though it's a heck of a time investment, this is one of those that you just have to watch.
