10 Amazing Movies That Didn't Receive An Oscar Nomination

1. Reservoir Dogs

The Film: It's staggering to remember that it took a motor-mouthed video clerk to bring together everything he loved about heist movies, world cinema, music and the deceptive art of script blending with jigsaw narrative to turn in one of the nineties's boldest and best movies.

At the ripe old age of almost twenty five years old, Quentin Tarantino's bolt from the blue continues to burn into our consciousness, like the embers in a stubbed out cigarette. Everything from the film's soundtrack-enhanced opening, pistol whip, quick plot twists and a menacing turn from a then lean and mean Micheal Madsen make up a now uncompromising classic. Still fresh, especially on Blu-Ray, too.

Come nomination time for the 66th Academy Awards, the film was beaten to a pulp by Schindler's List - an eventual worthy winner - as well as Philadelphia, The Remains Of The Day and The Piano garnering a load of noms. Given these latter three haven't had the lasting impact of Reservoir Dogs it's even more frustrating that this, our numero uno, didn't receive a single nod.

What Nominations It Should Have Received: Best Picture, Best Director (Tarantino), Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Michael Madsen).
