10 Amazing Plot Twists In Otherwise Awful Movies
4. The Hangover Part II - Teddy's In The Lift
This one is a particularly ironic case.
The first Hangover is a hilarious and clever (if dated) comedy that proves to be a surprisingly well-executed mystery, at least until the ending, in which it presents a rather implausible explanation for where the missing groom was all this time - he'd been on the roof of the hotel, and somehow no-one had spotted him or checked the CCTV.
The film's 2011 sequel is essentially the inverse of this, being a nasty, mean-spirited and chronically unfunny movie that serves as one of the laziest sequels ever put to film - in that it essentially copies the first picture beat for beat - but, unlike the first effort, The Hangover Part II does actually have a good solution. It turns out that Teddy (Mason Lee), the missing brother of Stu's (Ed Helms) fiancee, has been stuck in a broken lift back at a Bangkok hotel for all this time.
This time around, not only does it make sense, it's also not obvious to the point where viewers will be wondering why it took the characters so long to figure it out. It just works, and it's one of the very few positive things this wretched sequel had going for it.
