10 Amazing Plot Twists In Otherwise Awful Movies

3. Joker: Folie A Deux - Arthur Is Killed By The Real Joker

Alright, this one is going to be controversial.

Joker: Folie a Deux is a terrible sequel that has earned all of the fan hate... or rather, most of it. There is one thing in the movie that fans have arguably been overzealous in attacking, and that's the ending, which sees Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) being murdered by an unnamed inmate (Connor Storie), who is possibly set to become the Joker that Batman will later face off against.

So many things in Joker 2 deserve all the backlash - the total lack of plot or character development, the risible musical numbers, the squandering of Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn, the way the film seems to hate its own audience - but the final twist? This was actually a really good idea.

It was a nice way of showing the cyclical nature of evil - one villain dies, another takes their place - as well as symbolizing the destructive influence Arthur's crimes had. As was seen in the first film, his actions inspired nothing but violence, including the murder of the Waynes, and having Arthur himself be destroyed by what he inspired was a nice way to end his story. Also, at least this rules out the possibility of a third Joker movie, right?

Joker: Folie a Deux is an awful sequel in nearly every other department, that's for sure, but this ending is better than people give it credit for regardless of how terrible the build-up to it was.
