9. "Stop It! Stop It!" - Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1982)
What is there to say about Halloween III that hasn't already been said?
Upon the film's 1982 release it was lambasted by critics and fans alike for carrying the Halloween moniker but not featuring now-expected franchise antagonist Michael Myers. Although profitable, the film was quickly forgotten as a failure. But in the 32 years since the film's release, it has undergone a huge reappraisal bringing us to the first of two entries for this stand-alone three-quel.
Tom Atkins lovable protagonist Dr. Dan Challis frantically pleads with broadcasters to take the 9pm giveaway off the air, screaming millions will die. As an audience we are with him all the way, and feel his anguish as he desperately tries to prevent catastrophe. First one channel goes off air... then another... But the third continues to run the throbbing-synth jingle we've all come to hate as Atkins begs for its cancellation. Children dressed in the dreaded Silver Shamrock Halloween masks watch transfixed and with one final "Stop iiiiiit!" over the synth soundtrack, the film cuts to black.
This wonderfully paranoid ending follows in the footsteps of the 1978 film's original cliffhanger, and Tom Atkins' haunting cries echo in our minds long after the credits have rolled wondering if he's saved millions from certain doom. In the the years since its release, Halloween III: Season of the Witch has become a truly iconic film, and this for sure is a truly awesome ending!
