10 Amazing Scenes In The Halloween Franchise
4. Lifting The Nurse - Halloween II (1981)
As previously mentioned, standing out among the slasher-clones was a tall order for 1981's Halloween II along with the added pressure of following a film so commercially successful and critically praised as Halloween. In their bid to craft a worthy sequel, the filmmakers turned Michael Myers into much more of a showman. No longer content with simply stabbing or choking his victims, Halloween II portrays The Shape as a rather thrifty being, as he adapts quickly to his new surroundings. Any one of these gory set pieces could be considered an awesome or iconic moment for the sequel as the filmmakers truly go for broke when displaying Michael's brutality.
However, one death sequence stands tall among the others in Halloween II for its truly disturbing and surreal visuals. Just as the film is seeming to lull, Nurse Jill comes across a dazed and drugged Laurie Strode in a hallway only for The Shape to silently step out from the shadows behind her. Laurie spies him, her eyes wide with horror and Just as poor Jill does the same, a scalpel is plunged into her back with an ear-splitting musical sting. We watch from Laurie's fuzzy point of view as the young nurse is lifted high into the air, with Myers even craning his neck to look up at his handiwork. With the clatter of her shoes falling from her feet, the stunned viewer gets an all-too-real sense of just how strong this masked boogeyman is!
What else is there to say about such a shocking, stunning scene? It comes out of nowhere and the image of Michael Myers lifting a fully-grown woman into the air with one hand has become one of the most identifiable moments from this worthy sequel.
