10 Amazing Scenes In The Halloween Franchise

5. The Beheading - Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

Halloween 2018 Ending
DIMENSION FILMS

Halloween was all set to go direct-to-video in 1997 when a little movie called Scream raked in box-office gold. Never one to miss a trick, Scream producers Dimension Films set to work on revitalizing the battle-scarred Halloween franchise. Fans rejoiced when it was announced Halloween would be back in a big way to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Jamie Lee Curtis would be reprising the role of Laurie Strode for one final battle with her psychotic sibling.

The promise was enough to ensure box-office success and the series' best reviews in years. However, the film has fallen victim to time and some traits present in the '90s slasher revival that are rather cringe-inducing in hindsight. For example, H20 features a great deal of teen drama, often times making it seem like Myers wandered onto the set of Dawson's Creek. The body count and Myers' screen time are also quite sparse

But, there's a reason we're still talking about this film 22 years later, right? The ending. After a visually stunning car crash on a mountainside incapacitates her murderous brother, Laurie moves in with a fire axe to have the final word. With sweet, melodic music playing over the scene we grind our teeth in frustration as The Shape reaches a hand toward her pleading for freedom. A distraught Laurie reaches back. "No!" we scream. But with a smirk and a sneer, she ends her torment with one cathartic swing. Michael's head comes off and rolls down the hillside as years of frustration and rage pour out of a relieved Laurie.

What an ending! Myers' ultimate death on-screen is something fans had longed to see. The sequence would have been a more than fitting end to the series... sadly Halloween: Resurrection happened.
