Sometimes sci-fi films work best when they're calm, measured, and thoughtful. Other times, they're Repo Men. Though this may sound like a criticism, rest assured that despite its gratuitous violence, relentless action and all-round grimness, 2010's Repo Men is a brilliant, wonderfully untamed sci-fi flick abound with scenes, characters and themes to sink your teeth into.

In the not-so-distant future, Remy (Jude Law) works as a titular "Repo Man" - a government worker who must retrieve artificial organs from those who can no longer pay for their transplants. After an accident on the job, Remy finds himself with an artificial heart and no money to pay for it. Hunted by his own friends and allies, including a delightfully frightening Forest Whitaker, he decides to rebel against the system and wage a one-man war on his former employers.

Outside of the film's intense and stylish action sequences and themes of corruption and injustice, Repo Men is also a clever and slick sci-fi flick with enough twists to keep you on the edge of your seat until the final credits roll.

What you also get from the film are some staggering visuals and set pieces typical to the genre, and a performance from Jude Law which is at first unlikable and smug, but grows endearing and heroic as the plot speeds towards its epic and unforeseen conclusion.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
