10 Amazing Sci-Fi Movies You Need To Stop Sleeping On
4. Chappie
When it comes to sci-fi, Neill Blomkamp is something of a modern day genius. With a track record including the brilliant District 9 and Elysium, Blomkamp is a director destined to get bigger and better with each passing film.
Chappie was released in 2015 and follows the titular police robot (Sharlto Copley) after he is kidnapped by a gang of criminals and re-programmed to have the ability to think and feel. As Chappie is then used to part-take in a number of crimes, he must try and find a way to survive as his battery begins to run low.
With its fantastic visuals, action-packed crime spree scenes and genuinely moving moments of humanity from the titular robot, Chappie received unfair mixed reviews upon its release. But with its solid acting - complete with roles from Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver - and emotional drive, it's hard to understand why it was maligned. It is a touching, fast-paced and visually satisfying drama, and is well worth being ranked alongside Blomkamp's other pictures.
