10 Amazing Spider-Man 2 Script Changes That Drastically Changed The Film

9. Electro's Mommy Issues

Jamie Foxx's Max Dillon was one of the biggest problems with the film, mostly due to his goofy portrayal and Edward Nigma/Batman Forever-esque motivations for becoming hot-headed bad guy Electro. In the original script it seems the writers tried diving a bit more into his backstory as a way to give him more character development. Dillon lives with his wheelchair-bound mom (making it even worse that no one seems to care that it's his birthday...). She isn't bothered in the slightest when she hears that Dillon apparently dies in a freak lab accident, and it's later revealed that she can actually walk. Electro returns home to see her standing and accepting a payout from Oscorp, and gets angry at her, which results in him using his powers and leading into the big confrontation between him and Spidey at Times Square. When you think about it, this may have worked a bit better than the "You don't remember me?!" motivation he gives at Times Square, which follows his apparent hunger for electricity that causes the disturbance in the first place.
