10 Amazing Spider-Man 2 Script Changes That Drastically Changed The Film

8. Dr. Kafka's Sex Change And Electro's Ravencroft Escape

In the finished film, Ravencroft Institute's resident crazy person Dr. Kafka is a man, played by Martin Csokas. In the comics and original screenplay, however, Dr. Kafka is a woman. Why Marc Webb decided to give the character a gender swap (or turn her from often-good scientist into a horrible mad scientist Nazi) is a complete mystery. As you may remember, Kafka is tasked with torturing Electro... because that's what Nazis do, and is eventually killed by him when Harry Osborn comes in to get some help to take down Spider-Man. In the original screenplay, this meeting between Osborn and Electro never takes place. Instead, Electro breaks out of Ravencroft, and attempts to kill Harry at the grave of Norman Osborn. When he sees that Harry is now the Goblin, he decides to team up with him instead. Honestly it would have taken a lot more script changes to make the Harry/Electro team-up feel natural, but it's doubtful fans will ever forgive Webb for what he did to Dr. Kafka (perhaps it's a sign that HYDRA has infiltrated the Spider-Man film universe?)
