10 AMAZING Trailers That Sold Bad Movies
4. Prometheus
The indirect prequel to the iconic Alien franchise had some big shoes to fill. The trailer hints at a similar story to that of the original Alien film but adding the idea of a creator into the mix. Setting up a film that leaned into its horror roots whilst modernising it for the 2012 audience.
The film itself is not bad by any means and critically did okay, it was more in audience perception that it failed. The trailer seemed to suggest that there was a direct connection to the events of Alien (1979) , however, this was not the direction that the film ended up going in. Fans seemed unsure how to respond to Prometheus and many felt, whilst it is an okay film it did not live up to the promise set by its predecessors.
As a standalone movie this probably would have been forgotten by now, if it had been the Alien prequel promised by the trailer maybe it would hit greater heights. However, as it stands it exists in a space between both and fails to excite.
