10 Amazing Unmade Alien Films

1. Alien: Engineers

The general consensus with Prometheus is that it was a missed opportunity. Or else a complete f*cking shambles. Thirty years after he started the franchise Ridley Scott finally came back to tie up some loose ends from the original Alien film: what exactly is the Weyland-Yutani corporation after? What was up with that space jockey guy on the planet the Nostromo crew visited? And where did the xenomorphs come from? Not necessarily questions that needed answers, but the promise of Scott returning to the series was exciting. At least it was until audiences actually saw the film, and it was a sort of half-arse Alien prequel that was coy about ever identifying itself as such, instead going in for dodgy internal logic and semi-philosophical musings. Which is very different from how it could have been. The original draft of the script - dubbed Alien: Engineers - is still far from perfect, but it's a damned sight better than what we actually got. In the end Prometheus offered no answers. Jon Spaihts revealed the aliens were a weapon created by a master race, Michael Fassbender's android was more evil, Noomi Rapace's scientist less religious. Oh and it hinted that Jesus was an Engineer, and that xenomorphs were created to punish humanity for crucifying him. How's that for an origin story... Would any have these have been better than what we got? Probably. Share your thoughts in the comments below.
