10. Neil Blomkamp Brings Back Hicks

The reason anybody's been brave enough to jump back on board the USS Nostromo after all these years is thanks to a recent revival of interest in the Alien films. There was the critically acclaimed video game Isolation, which mimicked the fear and lack of firepower of the first movie; oh, and Neill Blomkamp revealed the Alien film he wanted to make. The South African director of Oscar-winning extraterrestrial apartheid allegory District 9 and the surprisingly subversive action flick Elysium is one of the most exciting science fiction filmmakers working today, and the revelation that he was working on an Alien film is hella cool. That it won't get made? Less cool. Blomkamp started €œleaking€ concept art for his project on his Instagram account last week, albeit without much context. There's still plenty to chew over, though, like a redesigned facehugger, a resurrected Corporal Hicks, and Ripley wearing a space jockey helmet...
