10 Animated Movies That Disney Should Adapt Into Live-Action
6. Fantasia
Fantasia, and its sequel Fantasia 2000, were experimental, cinematic events unlike any other disney film. Try to imagine a psychedelic, Terence Malick movie for kids and you're pretty much there. Of all the hallowed films people don't want to be adapted, this is a film unlikely to have audiences complaining since it is a collection of short film intertwined with a concert of classical music.
It has been constantly reissued by Disney, so its popularity isn't in question. And it would represent an opportunity for a collection of short films to receive a blockbuster release - something unheard of in this day and age.
Perhaps hire 8 visionary animation directors and various kinds of writers to craft 8 very distinctive shorts, and in the process introduce kids to classical music. It's an opportunity for something really unique, and educate kids to the joys of classical music whilst not forcing them to sit through an actual concert- and a lot cheaper, too!
It would be wise to include Mickey, but perhaps not as the Sorceror's apprentice. And cast a huge A-list star as The Master of Ceremonies to introduce each short film. Kenneth Branagh would be an excellent choice- dramatic, yet a comforting presence, and full of good humour. A perfect host for Fantasia. This way you have 2 beloved faces guiding audiences through an experience many of them would never have experienced.
And with visual effects having moved on so much, the sky is the limit. Maybe even get Pixar to produce one of the shorts- after all, they are the sole company carrying on the tradition of a short film before the main attraction.
