10 Anticipated Movie Sequels Stuck In Development Hell

The MCU may have struggled in its post-Endgame world, but there have been bright spots, one of which is the commercial and critical success that was Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Naturally, everyone expected a sequel to come after it released in 2021, though four years later, and, yes, Simu Liu has been confirmed to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, but what about a follow-up solo flick?

It has been confirmed by Liu that the sequel is still being developed, but there has been a lot of change going on at Marvel Studios, something that seems to have damaged Shang-Chi 2. Firstly, the wider MCU franchise is reportedly focusing now more on quality over quantity, meaning there will be less releases each year, giving the project less chance to be produced any time soon. Then there is the fact that director Destin Daniel Cretton, who clearly impressed with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been sought out by Marvel to move into other areas, initially being tapped to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, before leaving the project and agreeing to direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day instead.

It would be insane for Marvel Studios to kill the Shang-Chi franchise at only one entry, and though there are still some empty slots on the MCU release schedule, it seems as though the film just isn't a priority, and likely won't be until after both Doomsday and Secret Wars are done.
